The Saranac Lake Chain Region is located on the northern reaches of the High Peaks, including the village of Saranac Lake and Paul Smiths College. The region is surrounded by the Saranac Chain of Lakes. Site of "The 90 Miler" annual paddle race, many of the region's lakes are connected by rivers, locks, and portages.
Rainbow Lake is located 12 miles north of the town of Saranac Lake and 22 miles from the town of Lake Placid.
